I confess: there’s a really easy way to make me happy. Send some good matcha dessert my way and you’re sure to see a big smile on my face!
A good matcha find, be it a soft serve green tea ice cream from a convenience store or a customized green tea ice cream from a luxurious brunch, is always a welcome treat!
Here are some of my memorable matcha finds from here and abroad:
Swirl of Roasted Green Tea and Green Tea Soft Serve Ice Cream (Hiroshima Train Station)
When I went to Japan last year, a lot of time was spent enjoying the delicious food they had. But there was one thing that took time for me to find and was searching for quite a while. It’s the Roasted Green Tea and Green Tea Soft Serve Ice Cream in one, which I found only at the Hiroshima train station! One realization? The best things in life don’t always have to come from the fanciest places. 😉

Dark Chocolate Matcha Millefeuille (Le Petit Souffle)
I remember the first time Chef Miko Aspiras introduced this delightful dessert to me. This Dark Chocolate Matcha Millefeuille has thin layers of puff pastry filled with Guanaja dark chocolate and green tea mousseline. It has the perfect combination of dark chocolate and green tea in one delightful crispy pastry!
I think Chef Miko Aspiras is one genius pastry chef. See more of the delicious things he’s created here.

Green Tea Ice Cream in Dark Chocolate Wafer (7-11 Tokyo)
One thing about Tokyo (and Japan, in general) that I have to say is that there’s delicious food everywhere… even in convenience stores. I did not think I’d find the best Green Tea Ice Cream (with a Japanese name that I can’t even remember) sandwiched in a dark chocolate wafer from a 7-11 store! So imagine my delight when I discovered this unique treat!

Dancing Queen (The Dessert Kitchen)
Earlier this year, one of the best desserts places opened in Manila: The Dessert Kitchen. If you’re a matcha lover like me, you must try its Dancing Queen. It is filled with layers of vanilla ice cream, milk pudding, mini rice balls, red bean, green tea kanten, and then topped with their homemade green tea ice cream!
I first talked about discovering the Dessert Kitchen here.

Green Tea White Chocolate Fountain (Nobu Manila)
Sunday brunches are special, especially if it’s as indulgent and luxurious as Nobu Manila’s Sunday Brunch. When it came to the dessert station, its showstopper is the Matcha White Chocolate Fountain served with all the possible little cakes and fruits you can find. Imagine dipping everything in matcha!
And aside from that amazing matcha fountain, Nobu Manila also has an interactive ice cream station where you can select your own ice cream flavors and toppings to be mixed up on a cold stone. Of course, I asked the dessert chef to mix Black Sesame and Green Tea ice cream for me and top it with fresh strawberries!

Soft Serve Green Tea Ice Cream (Family Mart)
It turns out that this delicious ice cream was an open secret in Manila. No one had told me that Family Mart is the mecca for a green tea lover like me! This yummy soft serve green tea ice cream is only P30 (wow, right?!) and such a simple but delightful find. And the twirl-all-you-can concept is a real skill to master — not as easy at it looks — but yes, I must say, I am a pro at it already!
