How do I “spoil” myself? I go back to my usual favorite spots in the city, where the service is excellent and where I feel right at home. And for the past few years, the Makati Shangri-La Lobby Lounge has always been mine and my girlfriends’ refuge from our chaotic schedules! This is where we meet up in the middle of a busy day to catch up, have our favorite slice of cake and pastries while we sip coffee or tea. This can be quite ironic considering that the hotel is located right in the center of the busy Makati CBD but then again, we also know that as soon as we step into the Lobby Lounge, we are immediately surrounded by an oasis of greens, and a vibe that just relaxes and calms us all down.
So last week when Makati Shangri-La invited me to come over one afternoon to try their new offering for high tea, I readily said YES, since I know I needed this break from my busy schedule! I was joined by my friend Mikaela, since an afternoon of treats is definitely best shared with a friend (or a whole group of friends)!
They set before us a delectable feast: smoked salmon sandwiches, fresh chocolate truffles, and some of the most unique and delicious scones we’ve ever tried in the city. We had a good chat and laugh talking about our lives as busy Mummies!
Tea & Treasures: A Charmed Life, is what they call the new afternoon tea offering at the Lobby Lounge.
It’s such a sweet and lovely spread of delectable hors d’oeuvres, served in an exquisite jewellery box!
Everything here spells P-R-E-T-T-Y and Y-U-M-M-Y as you can see, which is perfect for all of us mummies (and ladies) out there looking for a nice place for a midday break!
Yes, the box is actually a compartmentalized chest, with drawers spilling out to reveal a delicious assortment of canapés, sandwiches, homemade scones, desserts and pastries. To avail of this, head to the Lobby Lounge between 3 to 6pm from Monday to Sunday and ask for Tea & Treasures: A Charmed Life.
If you want a more traditional option, other high tea spreads are available too : the English Classic set, with finger sandwiches, scones and pastries, and The Filipino Favorites with pan de sal sandwiches, savory bites and other favorite local delicacies.
So mummies, ladies, go out, have some fun and spoil yourselves and your girlfriends this afternoon! It’s good to take a break once a while — you know you deserve it! 🙂

Love this! I love afternoon tea and I haven’t done it in a while…definitely high time (excuse the pun)! I remember when I was younger I used to visit my cousin in HK and we would sneak away for afternoon tea in the Peninsula. We were probably the youngest ones there (definitely the scruffiest!!) and we would giggle and gossip and feel oh-so-grown-up and ladylike (even if we weren’t in the least!) 🙂 I’ve loved afternoon tea since then…must rekindle the practice!
I agree with you, Joey! It’s good to take a breather in the middle of the (busy) day… even just once in a while! And an afternoon tea with girlfriends is just the perfect excuse for that! 🙂
