Ma Po Tofu is a popular Chinese dish usually made of ground meat, chili bean sauce and tofu. It is a very simple dish to begin with and for purposes of our TSM Homemade Recipes (where I advocate the simpler, the better), I have modified this recipe further by removing the chili bean sauce and adding green beans instead, so our kids can enjoy a healthier dish.
This dish is so easy to make that I know even your little boys and girls can help you whip this up in a snap! This is for all you busy (and spoiled) mummies and daddies out there who neither have the time nor the patience to cook for long periods of time.
This recipe can be served either for lunch or dinner and — is perfect for last minute guests or emergency meals! Ingredients are easy to find too. But despite the simplicity of this dish, it is quite healthy, nutritious and guaranteed to be very satisfying!
So yes, this is COMFORT food!
Happy Cooking!!!
INGREDIENTS :
1 kilo ground beef or pork
chopped garlic, onions and tomatoes
3 tbsp. hoisin sauce
3 tbsp. soy sauce
1 1/2 tbsp. brown sugar
green beans like snap peas or string beans
1 pack firm tofu, cut in cubes
chopped spring onions
PROCEDURE :
1. Saute ground beef or pork in chopped garlic, onions and tomatoes.
2. When the ground meat is cooked through (around 15 minutes), add hoisin sauce, soy sauce and brown sugar.
3. Once all combined, add your preferred green beans and tofu cubes. Mix them all together carefully, as the tofu is soft and delicate.
4. Once all cooked (around 5 minutes), spoon over steamed white rice. Top with spring onions and serve hot!
