New Year, New Skin Care

It has been a while since I last wrote about beauty in the blog. But since part of my New Year’s resolutions is to take care of myself more, I promise that this time around, I will try to be a little bit more conscious of my beauty and skincare routine. I am now willing to try new skincare products to experiment and see which suit my specific needs the best. I am willing to learn the science of what is behind each product I use now (or intend to use) to know which ones work for me.

Women nowadays are busy juggling a lot of things. We have our careers, our homes, our families among a gazillion other things to take care of.  And we always put ourselves at the last. I am a firm believer in the importance of taking care of ourselves first before we can take care of those around us.

Mummies and ladies, don’t feel bad about pampering or spoiling yourself every now and then. If you want to relax after a long day at work by getting a 60-minute massage or by watching a movie while the kids are in school, then go ahead.  If you want to prettify yourself by going to your favorite salon to have your hair or makeup done or by buying new skincare products to try, then by all means do so. It is perfectly alright to want to look good to feel good. It is perfectly fine to indulge in the “little nice things”  to make us feel better about ourselves. We need it and deserve it, don’t you agree? 🙂

When the occasion calls for it, I spoil myself by playing with different hairstyles and having my makeup done. (Here with my favorite beauty team : Avril Seguin and Verna Marin. The other photobomber is my 6-year old boy!)

I have mentioned in my past beauty articles how I have been a loyal and long-time user of La Prairie Eye Cream. I have tried several brands out there, but personally, this is the only one that works for me. I admit that it can be quite expensive if you compare it with other brands. But if you look at the ingredients (and its nice packaging), its superb quality and its measured effectiveness, you would be convinced. And if you consider the amount of  money that you will save later on in restoring the firmness and vitality of your skin, you will realize that the “investment” you put in your eye cream (or any expensive skincare for that matter), is worth it after all.

And because it’s the new year… New year for me means new beauty tips, new skincare habits and new products to try!

Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil and Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Cream

La Prairie has just come up with its newest products in the market today : the Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil and the Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Cream.

Sounds pure luxury in a bottle, doesn’t it? And it is. This new duo contains a patent-pending Swiss Ice Crystal Complex that promises to make our skin become more resilient and renewed so we can look younger at any age. Now who doesn’t want that? 🙂

The Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil is sheer, light and weightless. It is both hydrating and nurturing. I’ve tried this for about two weeks now and I feel the difference. It made my skin supple and gave it that natural, healthy glow. How does that happen? It’s the oil ingredient here that helps create a seal that locks in the moisture on our skin.

The other key ingredients here aside from the Swiss Ice Crystal Complex are pure healing oils that we are familiar with, such as : Sweet Almond, Sunflower Seed, Sea Buckthorn Berry and Jojoba Seed. It also has a number of other nourishing extracts like the Co-enzyme Q10 for firming and Vitamin E for moisturizing.

This oil can be used alone or in combination with your other serums, creams and moisturizers.

The Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Cream meanwhile, is a nourishing oil-in-water-gel-cream moisturizer. What I love most about this cream is its texture. It is rich but not sticky or greasy. After application, it immediately penetrated my skin and made it feel smooth. The main ingredients, aside from the Swiss Ice Crystal Complex  are : Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter and Mallow Extracts. These are the ones known for fortifying our skin’s resistance against the daily stresses and other aging factors.

Here’s how to apply them :

  1. Cleanse and tone both face and neck.
  2. Blend a drop or two of the Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil with the Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Cream.
  3. Apply on both face and neck.
  4. These two can be used twice daily, morning and evening.

Lastly, let me share with you two important skincare tips that I have learned throughout the years :

clenase and tone

Tip no. 1 : It is important to cleanse and tone our face first before we apply any moisturizer. Cleansing and toning the skin leads to better absorbency of the next product, the moisturizer.

Tip no. 2 : We should give the same importance to our neck as much as we do to our face. The skin on our neck is thin, sensitive and prone to wrinkles and sagging. In short, our neck will show signs of aging faster than our face.  That being the case (and to be practical about it), we can use the same cleanser, toner and moisturizer that we use on our face, on our neck as well.

Now that the new year has rolled in, are we taking care of our skin as much as we should? How much time, care and attention do we devote in making sure that our beauty and skincare routine are working effectively?

I’m sure you have some tried and tested beauty secrets too…share them with me in the comments section below!
