A few days back I got a call from one of Atelier Vivanda’s owners, Khristine Gabriel to interview visiting Chef Akrame Benallal.
I immediately said YES knowing that this is going to be a rare opportunity for me to be on a one-on-one interview with a 2-Michelin starred chef!
Chef Akrame (as he is more popularly known) is a multi-awarded chef with a string of restaurants under his belt. He has 2 branches of his eponymous Restaurant Akrame, a French fine dining restaurant. He first opened in Paris last 2011, which was then followed by opening a second one in Hong Kong in 2013. And just 6 months after opening his French restaurant, he received his first Michelin Star, earning him the title of being the youngest chef to have gotten this recognition.
After the success of his 2 restaurants, he then started a more casual dining place, a French bistro as he would describe it, called Atelier Vivanda. Just like with his first two, he again first opened in Paris followed by his Asian stop, Hong Kong. And this year, just last February, Atelier Vivanda opened its doors right here in Manila!
Knowing the intensity of my interviewee, I then decided to shoot a video instead.
Recently, I’ve been more “at home” doing live interviews, as seen in my last event, Pillow Talk, where I also did a mini “talk show” with my guests. For some reason, I feel that live interviews are able to capture more the rawness and the essence of my subject. Who knows, maybe there’ll be more opportunities for me to do more of these… I am surprised myself that I am in fact enjoying this!
So without much further ado, here is my exclusive one-on-one interview with one of the world’s finest chefs, Chef Akrame Benallal.
