Here we go again…another birthday celebration! (See my previous post here, here and here to see how much I love throwing birthday parties!) This time it was for my eldest son who turned the big 7! Kids these days grow up so fast, so when we realized that our first-born will be turning 7, we planned a very special birthday party for him. I think it has always been a part of Filipino culture that families ring in the 1st, the 7th and the 18th birthdays with a bang, so this is precisely what we had intended for our beloved eldest! 🙂
Our eldest son is very much into performing; he is our very own little big star! He loves music and is very much fond of singing and dancing. The theme he chose for his 7th birthday party perfectly suited his interests and style : it was a Rock and Roll Concert Party!
The event was held at the Conway’s bar in Makati Shangri-La Hotel. I think this was the very first time that this venue (which is a real bar that serves alcohol and hosts live bands at night) was used for a kiddie party! Thankfully, our party was held on a Sunday afternoon, so then it turned out to be just perfect for our little Rockstar guests! 🙂
VIP passes were handed out which served as the guests’ name tags.
Rockstar pins were also given and pinned to the kids’ shirts as they arrived.
The kids also got to choose their own skull tattoo.
Metal necklaces with the word “Rock” spelled out and had electric guitars as pendants.
And more Rockstar accessories for the kids!
And more…I guess you can really never have enough Rockstar charms and giveaways!
The center stage!
One of the reasons why we chose to have the party in Makati Shangrila’s Conway’s Bar was because of their stage and equipment. We wanted a venue that had a real stage in it (instead of having to create a makeshift one) and a place with good lighting and sound system. The place definitely fit our requirements and this made our guests feel that they were indeed in a real Rock and Roll concert!
And this time, he’s at the drums with one of his best friends!
The “female fans” were getting giddy with excitement too! 🙂
Aside from a mini Rock and Roll concert from the birthday boy, we also had an amazing, interactive show called Shadow Play. This was handled by the My Masterpiece Movement, a group that provides good, educational entertainment for kiddie parties. (My son requested that he wanted to do away with the usual birthday clowns, magicians, puppet or animal shows that are commonly seen in younger children’s parties!)
The Shadow Play definitely caught the kids’ attention since this proved to be a very interactive storytelling session! My Masterpiece Movement came up with a plot about a child Rockstar that had a similar story to that of the birthday boy 🙂
The program of the party was very unique, innovative and most importantly, educational for the kids.
After that, we also had another fun activity. This time it was all about interactive art! We had a huge mural that we called the Wall of Fame 🙂
The kids enjoyed this activity too as they all got to participate and add their own handprint, drawing or splash of color on the huge mural!
And here’s the final product made by all the kids…It was an art mural for the birthday boy!
And here’s my own little Rockstar trying his own hand at the Magic Portrait…
And with a little help from the artists in the group, the finished product looked very much like him! The birthday boy was ecstatic to have been given this Rockstar of the Year award! 🙂
Personalized Rockstar shirts were handed out to the boys and girls right before another concert began!
The live band called Artbeats brought the house down!
There were no usual children’s party songs here! The band jammed to popular tweeners’ music (Glee, High School Musical, Justin Bieber, Black Eyed Peas, Taylor Swift and the like) that made the guests – both kids and parents alike! – get up on their feet and dance!
The kids had a blast singing and dancing to the beat! They were surely partying like true Rockstars! 🙂
Now on to the food…Here’s the menu that we crafted with the chefs of Makati Shangrila Hotel. We made sure that the food were your usual but favorite concert party treats!
Nachos with Tomato Salsa, Beef Sauce and Melted Cheese Dip
Mini Tostados with Marinated Shredded Chicken
Photo from the Taco Station…we also had Chicken Quesadillas, Burritos and Spaghetti Bolognese to make sure none of the guests would leave the party hungry!
Dough fritters with Cinnamon Sugar, more popularly known as Churros!
Fruity jello-s in champagne glasses!
Non-alcoholic mocktail drinks that had a tinge of red in keeping with the theme 🙂
The hungry little Rockstars!
Desserts! We had an overload of different sweets, cakes and pastries!
Flourless chocolate cake with fresh strawberries were on top of the list, as this was (and it still is) one of The Spoiled Mummy’s favorite cakes from Makati Shangri-la Hotel 🙂
Creamy Leche Flan
Black Forest that tasted oh so good!
And to balance the sweetness of the other desserts, we had this smooth and cheesy Mango cheesecake which I also love! 🙂
It was indeed a very special day for our little big star who turned 7! He enjoyed the party very much and had a great time, because all his friends were able to join in the fun! But more than that, this day proved to be a special and memorable day for our family as well. This was the day we finally revealed (the Hubby went on stage for that!) that I was expecting and that there would be another little Rockstar joining our family soon! And with that, we ended the party with a bang and I guess we just made our big boy’s birthday wish come true!
